Congratulations to the West Middle School Boys!

The first Rocky River Middle School cross-country championship was held at Chuck Morehead Park on Monday.

The meet, hosted by Albemarle, had five teams participating. On a beautiful fall day, Albemarle, West Stanly, North Stanly, South Stanly and West Montgomery competed on the 2-mile course.

The boys ran first with Chet Needham of South Stanly taking first place in 13:52. Noah Almond of West Stanly placed second by racing the hilly course in 14:45. The Colts’ runner was a second ahead of West Montgomery’s Noah Maness. Two seconds later, Colts’ runner Korbin McNeil pushed through the finish line in 14:48.

Fifth and sixth place went to South’s Austin Phillips and Maverick Baucom of West Stanly. Phillips finished in 14:59 with Baucom crossing the finish line in 15:20.   

Rounding out the top 10 and earning a spot on the Rocky River All-Conference team were Riley Horton (7th-15:23) of South, North Stanly’s Levi Oliver (8th-15:30), West Stanly runners Brady Parker (9th-15:31:33) and Brandon Becker (15:31:70).

The West Stanly boys won the Rocky River Conference Championship with a score of 31. South placed second with 53, followed by North Stanly (90), Albemarle Middle School (92) and West Montgomery (94).

In the girls championship race, the South Stanly girls edged North Stanly 31-34 to take the Rocky River Middle School Cross Country Championship.

West Montgomery placed third with a score of 59. Albemarle and West Stanly did not having enough runners to qualify as a team.

North’s Emily Griffin ran the 2-mile course in 16:02 to place first. West Stanly’s Brooklyn Simpson was next with a 16:40 performance.
