THE triathlon may be a three-legged monster capable of striking fear in the hearts of hardened adults but no one bothered to tell these kids.

About 1500 young competitors, supported by friends and family, descended on Lowe Oval at Underwood yesterday to swim, cycle and run their way through the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon.

A competition in Townsville next month is scheduled in the wake of Brisbane's penultimate event of the season and follows races in Canberra, the NSW central coast, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Geelong and Melbourne.

By season's end an estimated 15,000 Aussie kids aged 7 to 15 will have participated.
