REDLAND kids were out in force trying their hardest when the eighth leg of the annual Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon was held at Lowe Oval in Underwood recently.
About 1500 children ran, cycled and swam their way to a healthy start to 2011.
Supported by Logan City Council, the event was packed with sporting stars, including teen sailing sensation and 2011 Young Australian of the Year Jessica Watson, champion swimmer Yolane Kukla, and Australian triathletes Maxine Seears, Ashleigh Gentle and Ollie Whistler. All were in attendance to lend their support to the participants, aged between 7 and 15.
Now in its 13th year in Australia, the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon in partnership with MBF features nine events held across the country from January to May.
An estimated 15,000 Australian children and 20,000 New Zealanders will participate in it.
Yolane Kukla, an ambassador for Speedo and Commonwealth Games gold medallist said the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon enabled children of all sporting capabilities to have a try in an encouraging and supportive environment without the pressure of competition.
