It was a record year for the Town and Country Sports triathlon with 350 students taking part.
Puketapu School principal Bill Turvey said the weather was perfect and everyone enjoyed the day.
A focus on fitness had helped boost the numbers of individuals competing to 90 - in 2003 just 10 students competed by themselves.
One of the reasons there's been the growth is that people recognise the value of multi-sports, Mr Turvey said. A lot of kids get involved in year 7 as a team and in year 8 as an individual. They get a taste and want the chance to do the whole thing.
Town and Country Sports was started about 15 years ago to give intermediate students from smaller schools around the region the chance to compete in sports such as hockey, soccer and athletics - and of course, triathlon.
