Three Alexandria area youth track and field athletes have qualified for the USATF Junior Olympic Championships on July 22 through 29 in Greensboro, N.C.

JeAnna Miller, Jaelyn Miller and Bethany Miller qualified for the national track and field competition at the Region 8 Championships, held July 4 through 7 in Aberdeen, S.D.

JeAnna will participate in three different events at the junior national competition.

JeAnna qualified for the national competition by earning a gold medal in the high jump girls 13 and 14 age division with a jump of 5’ 3’’. She also took third place in the long jump with a 15’ 2” result and fifth place in the triple jump with a distance of 31’ 1/2’’.

Bethany qualified for the national competition with a second place high jump result of 4’ 1 ½” in the girls 11 and 12 age division.

Jaelyn qualified for the Junior Olympic National Championships with a second place finish in the girls 8 and under division 800 meter run with a time of 3:32.25.

JeAnna and Jaelyn are returning to the national championships for their second year in a row. Bethany is making her Junior Olympic National Championships debut.

Other Alexandria area athletes who competed in the Region 8 Championships were Aleah Miller and Jackson Wichtendahl.

To qualify for the Junior Olympic National Championships, athletes must earn a place in the top five of each event at the Region 8 meet.
