In over 300 schools around the US, students are starting their day in an active, fun, healthy way with The Morning Mile, a before-school walking/running program. And thanks to the community of UA HOVR Connected runners in MapMyRun, The Morning Mile will be available in 50 more schools this fall.

The Morning Mile is a production of Fitzness International, which created this program to give children an opportunity to exercise in a free and friendly environment. Before the school day starts, students and their families get 30 minutes to do as many laps as they like at their own pace.

Under Armour partnered with The Morning Mile to support the program’s mission of teaching kids to learn healthy habits and to foster a love for running. The “KMs for Kids” Challenge on MapMyRun was created to give the community of runners a chance to make their miles count for something greater. Users that purchased and synced their UA HOVR Connected shoes to MapMyRun were entered into the Challenge. For every kilometer logged, $1 would be donated to the The Morning Mile, with the goal of reaching 100KM for a total donation of $100,000.

Because of the Under Armour community, students at these new Morning Mile schools will run millions of miles over the coming years, living better and longer because of it.

- Fitz Koehler, President of Fitzness International

The Challenge was expected to take months to complete, but the community exceeded expectations and reached the 100,000 KMs goal in just over two weeks. In total, over 50,000 members of the MapMyRun community participated in the KMs for Kids Challenge.

“I’m excited to partner with a leader in sports and fitness like Under Armour and am encouraged by [the company’s] commitment to providing children access to living a healthier life. Under Amour is about excellence and so are we. Because of the Under Armour community, students at these new Morning Mile schools will run millions of miles over the coming years, living better and longer because of it,” says Fitzness International’s President, Fitz Koehler, M.S.E.S.S.

This coming school year, 50 schools in the following areas will join the Morning Mile family and directly benefit from the KMs logged by the MapMyRun community: San Diego, California; Broward County, Florida; Nashville, TN; Portland, OR and Chicago, Illinois,
