The Chandler Rotary Elite Session once again drew some fine talent & included an opportunity for athletes from Idaho to shine as well. Mikayla Malaspina of Vallivue, a Foot Locker finalist in December, represented the state well with fine performances in both the 3200 Meter Run and the Mile. Mikayla placed second in the longer event with a time of 11:04.95, as Baylee Jones of Desert Vista, Az. Won with 10:55. Shelby Brown of Xavier Prep in Phoenix followed with a third place effort of 11:07.
Malaspina finished fifth in the Mile with a mark of 5:03 with Katie Rainsberger of Air Academy (Co.) secured victory with a fine 4:52. Sydney Badger of Centennial (Nv.) came in second with 4:54 and Lauren Ellsworth of Highland took third in 4:55 and was followed by Darby Gilfillen of George Washington, who ran 5:01. Sydney Badger of Las Vegas was victorious in the 800 Meters with 2:14 and defeated Mason Swenson of Desert Vista by two seconds.
Cerake Gederkidane of Denver East annexed both the Mile and the 3200 Meter races, as Nathan Rodriguez of Corona Del Mar garnered second in both events. Cerake claimed the mile in 4:08.00 to best Rodriguez by four seconds. Placing third was William Mayhew of Cheyenne Mountain with4:19.
The eight lap event went in a time of 9:02. Rodriguez, the Arizona D1 XC champion, earned second with 9:14 and edged Lucky Schreiner of Campo Verde by a second. Jonah Babbel, a junior from Vallivue, came home in9:36 to take tenth. Cade Burks of Perry won the 800M with 1:54 and Jordan Gardner of Snowflake was second in 1:55.
