Introducing Tennessee’s running sweetheart, Jenna Hutchins! She has taken the running world by storm by already achieving incredible accomplishments by the age of ten, including breaking a state record. In 2013, Jenna became the TN state record holder for 10K in the 9U division. Her record setting time was 47:00 flat, effectively shattering the previous record set. Her achievements don’t stop there, Jenna has also been a two time top 10 finisher at Footlocker South Region and she has also been a two time AAU Junior Olympic qualifier where she ran in the 1500 meter race in Houston, Texas. Currently, Jenna is nationally ranked in the top 100 for elite youth running and plans to stay there.
Before you cross the finish line, you have to begin at the starting line. Jenna started running when her family would go for runs together, and she hasn’t stopped running since then. Almost every runner has pre-race jitters before their race starts, including Jenna. “I’m nervous at first, but when I get to the starting line, I get excited.” She’s always ready to perform to the best of her ability when the race gun goes off. While Jenna is racing, she constantly thinks about what she is going to do at the end of her race, and how she will be able to achieve the best time possible. Before she starts any race, her goal is to beat her best time and reach a new PR.
Believe it or not, most of her running success has come from her natural ability and the passion that she feels for running. Both of these remarkable qualities help Jenna to strive to do her best during every single race she competes in. During her first 5K race of this season, Jenna came in first place out of 300 other female competitors with new PR of 21:09. Jenna is definitely a runner to watch and we will no doubt hear more about her in the future.
