Middle School races on track

At the seventh and eighth grade district track meet April 1 in Lampasas, the Lady Ducks at Taylor Middle School brought home medals and set records.

Ayanna Parker won the district championship in the long jump and the 100-meter dash. Parker jumped 14-5.5 in the long jump and ran a 13.14 100-meter dash to claim the gold medals.

Autumn Jensen finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.29. She also took the silver medal in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:00.74.

During the season, Jensen broke the school’s record in the 1600-meter run set by Kalisha Deary in 2000. She set the record with a time of 5:49.02, besting Deary’s time of 6:01.16.

Jensen also broke the 800-meter school record of 2:34.2 by Victoria Gonzales in 2003 by running 2:28.13 earlier in the track season.

The 400-meter relay team of Yetta Arroya, Kaisle Williams, Presilda Martinez and Parker took second with a time of 55.19.

The 800-meter relay team of Arroya, Williams, Jensen and Parker also took second at the meet. The group finished with a time of 1:59.64.

Arroya had a fourth place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.9.

Alyssa Hanacik took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 29-6.5.

Lauren Flores (shot put) and Williams (triple jump and 200-meter dash) had sixth place finishes for the seventh grade.

The 1600-meter relay team of Amber Vrabel, Kelsey Inostroza, Lauren Finney and Martinez finished sixth with a time of 5:13.78.

Other members of the seventh grade team are Taylor Anderson, Ariana Arce, Caitlin De La Garza, Alyssa Komandosky, Kristen Maxwell, Elizabeth Miget, Christa Moreno and Elizabeth Torres.

Overall, the seventh grade took third place as a team.

Zakiya Arceneaux finished second for the eighth grade team in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.55.

The 800-meter relay team of Brittany Randle, Neli Diaz, Katelyn Roznovak and Arceneaux were second at the meet with a time of 1:56.45.

Justicee Gault was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.75.

Roznovak finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.79. She also finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 4-6.

Earlier in the track season, Roznovak tied the school record set by Jill Winkelmann in 1996 with a high jump of 4-10.

The 400-meter relay team of Randle, Diaz, Roznovak and Arceneaux had a fourth place finish with a time of 54.22.

Diaz (100-meter dash) and Randle (200-meter dash) had sixth place finishes for the Lady Ducks.

The 1600-meter relay team of Gault, Diaz, Roxie Davila and Karisa Rios finished sixth at the meet with a time of 4:59.81.
