Swampscott - It was not the way the Big Blue intended to end their boys track and field season. However, it was what it was.
Despite not being able to send any Swampscott boys runner on to the All-State meet, Joe Tenney was happy with the effort his boys put forth in the Division 4 meet on Feb. 21.
“I think the kids did well. I think they prepared well and were ready,” said Tenney.
Several individual performances were impressive in Tenney’s eyes.
“Shiloh [Clarke] being a freshman did a great job and now gets a good look at the future competition,” said Tenney. “Kimson Jean had a great 300-meter race and looked stellar in the 4x400.”
That 4x400-meter relay team also included Clarke, Steve Meagher and Matt Gateman, while the 4x200 boys team included Danny Do, Dave Wilson, Xavier Pixley and James Payne.
He did feel bad for Gateman, who was far too under the weather to put in his best performance.
“He was getting over a cold and was not happy with his results, but overall, I think he has had the best season of running and still a season to go,” said Tenney.
“It has been a great season and I can’t wait to watch them run this spring,” Tenney added. “Good luck to Lindsay [Walsh] next week and a great job to the girls — they had a great season.”
