Staten Islanders nab medals at AAU Cross Country National Championships
ORLANDO, Fla. — Port Richmond’s Brandon Freeman and New Dorp’s Peter Clark nabbed medals at the AAU Cross Country National Championships on Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Freeman (Prospect Park Club), competing in the sub-youth 4,000-meter race, was 12th in 14 minutes, 37.12 seconds. Clark (Island Express), was 21st (15:08.33) in the same race which had a field of 91. Teammates Matthew Trimmer (59th, 16:53.43) and Sean Drennan (71st, 17:36.31) also competed.
In the girls sub-youth event, Westerleigh’s Justine Dasaro (Island Express) was 57th in 18:28.33.
Teammate Mary Kate Drennan of Princes Bay missed a medal by four places in the sub-midget 3,000 meters, taking 29th (12:31.62). Westerleigh’s Domenick Boccia (Island Express) was 39th in the boys sub-midget 3,000 in 12:20.96 .
In the girls 2,000 meter primary race, Port Richmond’s Sarah Freeman (Island Express) was 45th (9:17.55). Kevin Drennan (Island Express) was 69th (10:12.63) in the boys’ 2,000 race.
