SOMONAUK - The Somonauk Middle School Track team had 16 participants in 12 events at the IESA state track meet in East Peoria.

SMS came away with three medals.

Madison Kawall placed eighth in the eighth-grade girls 200 meter dash. The defending state champion in the long jump, she placed eighth in the eighth-grade girls long jump.

The surprise of the day was the phenomenal performance by the boys eighth-grade 4-x-200 meter relay team. The team consisted of Noah Stein, Austin Hatton, seventh grader Ethan Enders and Chris Tyrrell. The boys had run a 1:44.75 at the Ottawa Sectional the previous week and then shattered the school record becoming the first team to capture the state crown for SMS with a time of 1:42.46.
