DAY 1

    The Southern California Roadrunners competed at the USATF youth national track and field championship to be held all week. 3 Roadrunners competed and 3 roadrunners came back with medals.

     Claire Graves of Highland won the 15-16 year old girls division in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a PR of 7:41.56. Sydney LaChausse of Highland competed in the 17-18 year old division running a PR in the same event placing third with 8:19.    Morgan Taylor of Redlands placed 3rd in the 11-12 girls 1500 meter racewalk with 8:49.

     Tomorrow the team will have the 11-12 year old girls 4x800 relay run consisting of Lindsay Calderon of Apple Valley, Olivia Paez of West Covina, Morgan Taylor and Jasmine Alexander of Highland. 

 DAY 2

    The Southern California Roadrunners competed on Day 2 of the USATF youth National Track and Field championships. The team competed in the 11-12 4x800 meter relay placing 2nd in a season PR of 10:56.55. The  team consisted of Lindsay Calderon (Apple Valley), Olivia Paez ( Covina), Morgan Taylor (Redlands) and Jasmine Alexander (Highland) .

    Thursday and Fridays are qualifying rounds . Thursday is 800 meter qualifying with the top 8 advancing to finals on Saturday. Friday is the 1500 meter run qualifying rounds for the 13-14 and older age groups with the top 12 advancing to finals on Sunday.

 

 

 

DAY 3

    Lindsay Calderon was the lone qualifier for the team for the 800 meter run finals to be held this saturday. She placed 8th overall to advance to the final. Tomorrow is the 1500 m run qulifiers with Erik Gonzalez, Jose Castellon and Samanth Aguilar competing.

 

DAY 4

    The Southern California Roadrunners competing at the USATF Youth track and field championships continue to shine at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsvill, Illinois. Despite the heat in the high 80s with humity the Roadrunners continue to do well.

     Jose Castellon (Riverside)  competing in the 13-14 boys High Jump cleared 5 ft. 1 inch to place 8th place and secure the Roadrunners 8th National medal for the week. Jose then promptly competed in the 1500 meter qualifying round placing 4th in his heat and 8th fastest of the day in heat 2 with 4:39.33 to qualify for Sundays 1500 meter final. Teammate Erik Gonzalez (Riverside) running his usual run from the back of the back in lap 1 then moved to the lead to win heat 2  of the 13-14 boys 1500 meters with4:23.78 for the 2nd fastest time of the day. Samantha Aguilar (Mentone) placed 5th in her heat in the 15-16 year old girls 1500 with 5:07.25 for the 11th fastest time of the day to qualify for the top 12 qualifying spots for the final on Sunday.

     The team will compete in the 3000 meter run on Saturday with Olivia Paez (Covina) in the 11-12 age group , Erik Gonzalez and Jose Castellon in the 13-14 boys 3000 and Smantha Aguilar in the 15-16 age group. Lindsay Calderon (Apple Valley) is one of 8 finalists in  the 11-12 girls 800 meter run to be contested Saturday afternoon.

 

DAY 5

    The Southern California Roadrunners collected 5 more medals today at the USATF Youth track and field championships held at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois. Olivia Paez placed 3rd in the 11-12 year old girls 3000 meter run with 11:32.67. Erik Gonzalez placed 2nd overall in the boys  13-14 year old 3000 meter run with 9:34.08 with teammate Jose Gonzalez placing 5th with 9:49.32. Samantha Aguilar placed 8th in the 15-16 girls 3000 meter with 10:49.72. Lindsay Castellon ran a PR placing 6th overall in the 11-12 girls 800 meter run.

     Tomorrow the team competes in the 1500 meter final with Olivia Paez, Lindsay Castellon and Jasmine Alexander in the 11-12 age group, Erik and Jose in the 13-14 boys race and Samantha in the 15-16 age group.

 

DAY 6

    The Southern California Roadrunners finished the week like it all started by winning 3 medals including another gold medal. Claire Graves (Highland)  led off the week with a 2000 meter steeplechase victory  (4th National championships) last Tuesday and Erik Gonzalez earned his National title winning the 13-14 boys 1500 meter run by running a PR of 4:20.10. Claire only competed in the steeplechase and continued her summer vacation in Boston following the race. Claire will be attending Citrus Valley HS this fall and join teammate Sydney LaChausse at the school.

 

     Today was the 1500 meter finals with several Roadrunners achieving Personal bests. Jasmine Alexander (Highland) ran in heat 1 of the 11-12 girls race taking the lead at after lap 1 running a season best 5:35.28.Her time was good enough for 10th overall in the nation.  Jasmine will attend Citrus Valley HS this fall. Olivia Paez running in heat 2  wound up with the third fastests time of the day for the bronze medal with a 5:12.74 for her third medal for the week. Lindsay Calderon placed 10th in her heat to take 12 th overall.

 

     Erik Gonzalez battled 3000 m champion Seth Hirsch (Omaha Racers) trading off the lead from first 3 laps and kicking to win the final 150 meters. Teammate Jose Castellon finished 7th overall for his third medal of the week.

     Samantha Aguilar (Mentone) finished 9th with 5:05.38 . Samantha will be attending Redlands East Valley HS this fall and will be the top runners this season.

 

     The Roadrunners will begin Cross Country practice in 2 weeks and will have tryouts for anyone interested in becoming a competitive and or elite runner. High School runners may train with the team to prepare for  their HS season. In 2012 Roadrunner alumni were major forces  at their High school with some competing at the HS state championships in Cross Country and Track and Field. One athlete helped his school win the State and National title in 2012 and another set the HS National record in the 1600 m run for freshman with 4:09. Roadrunner running camp will be held in Big Bear July 21-25. Anyone interested may contact the team. Camp is not limited to Roadrunners. Other running clubs will be attending the camp.Last year over 10 National champions attended.
