Silverton cross country sweeps

The Silverton High School boys and girls cross country teams went to the Nelson Invitational at Sorosis Park in The Dalles and swept both the boys and girls team titles Sept. 19.

The girls, who finished five runners in the top 10, were led by Sierra Rysdam, who finished second overall (21:09). She was followed by Danielle Zehrung (fourth - 22:14), McKenzie DeMott (seventh - 25:15), Bryanna St. Paul (ninth - 26:08) and Carin Norris (10th - 26:19).

The boys followed the girls by taking first against a strong The Dalles-Wahtonka boys team. Junior Kody Coxen took second (17:39), behind last year’s Washington 1B/2B cross country champion from Klickitat.

Joe Martin followed Coxen in fourth (18:13). Cole Schackelford (sixth - 19:13), Aaron Molstad (10 - 20:07), Dylan Barr (11 - 20:14), and Scott Ostlund (12 - 20:28) rounded out the varsity finishers.

Jeff LeVine (20:39) won the junior varsity race.
