Silver Cheetahs advance to AAU national meet

The Savannah-Chatham Silver Cheetahs competed June 14-17 at New Manchester High School in Douglasville to compete for a chance to advance to the 2012 AAU National Junior Olympic Games in Humble, Texas.

Nine athletes finished amongst the top five competitors overall to advance to the national competition. Gold medals were earned by Jade Stokes in the Young Women Division shot put (42 feet); Jalen Deloach in the Bantam Boys long jump (15-08.75); and Tariq Washington, Intermediate Boys 3,000-meter racewalk (16 minutes, 50.80 seconds).

Silver medals were earned by Deloach, who was second in the Bantam Boys 200 meters (28.40) and Washington, second in the Intermediate Boys 2,000 steeplechase (7:53).

Antoneo Wilson received bronze medals in the Youth Boys shot put (33-5.75) and high jump (5-3.75).

Mike Dash placed fourth in the Young Men’s long jump (21-9.50) and Taylor Deloach was fourth the Intermediate Girls long jump (16-10.75).

Jamia Washington was fourth in the Sub-Youth Girls javelin (40-8) and also qualified in two additional events by placing fifth in the discus (49-8) and in the 3,000 racewalk (26:23.14).

The Cheetahs’ youngest qualifier, Chris Glover, was fifth in the Sub-Bantam Boys shot put (15-9.75).
