CRESTVIEW - The Shoal River Middle School girls cross country team made a strong showing against Ruckel on Sept. 12, beating the Rams 23-33.


Alyssa Johnson led the Lady Mustangs with a second-place finish out of 32 runners on the 2-mile course in 14 minutes, 10 seconds. Patricia Acevedo and Mia Banks tied for third in 14:15.

Caelyn Grodoski finished in sixth place, covering the course in 14:29, and Chelsea Aguilar finished in eighth place, posting 14:45. Other team members and their times included Jaylah Lawson, 14:56; Gracie Gillis, 15:32; and Caitlin Price, 16:18. 

The Shoal River boys ran well but came up short of the win, falling to Ruckel, 23-34.

Kobe Delgado led the Mustangs with a second-place finish in 12:16. Marcus Purcell finished in fifth place with 13:02, Jack Corbin finished seventh with 13:20, Zane Levine was in eighth place, posting 13:29, and Anthony Morales ran 13:47 to finish in 12th place. 

Other team members include Carlos Torres, 15:02; Paul Pereria, 15:09; William Caldwell, 15:48; Jacob Mulls, 16:10; Caden Duncan, 16:11; and Brayden Cherrington, 16:39.

The Mustangs return to action at 4 p.m. Sept. 26 when they host Lewis and Pryor.
