The Southern California Roadrunners competed at the SCA USATF track and field championships over the past weekend at Cerritos College and performed well with many athletes obtaining PRs and National qualifying marks. Highlights include Phillip Rocha winning 4 golds duplicating last years 4 gold hall but with Nation leading marks and PRs in each race and breaking again his 3000 meter National record  . Phillip's times of 1:59.98, 4:09. 46 and 8:56.93 were all personal bests. He anchored the Youth boys 3200 meter relay team to 8:39.66 to a national leading mark.

 

     Friday night the Roadrunners performed well with Safia Abou Zamzam (Redlands)  and Michael Leong (Highland) competing in the Midget division (age 10-11)  placed third in their 1500 meter race walk. Olivia Paez (Covina) and Jasmine Alexander ran personal bests in the Midget girls 3000 meters with National qualifying marks with times of 11:43.0 and 11:43.12. Noah Tamagno (Brea) ran a PR by 15 seconds to take 4th in the midget boys 3000 meters with 10:47. The Youth girls joined the party will all three 7th graders  running Personal records breaking the 11 minute barrier  and qualifying for Nationals. Claire Graves (Highland) placed third with a personal best of 10:27.89 with Alex Gushue (Claremont) was 6th with 10:52.98 and Samantha Aguilar (Mentone) taking 8th with 10:57.05.
     The Youth boys 3000 meters was the highlight of the meet as Phillip Rocha (San Gabriel Valley) and Jacob Ogden (South Orange County Wildcats) continued their famous duels with Phillip leading the race the entire race and Jacob challenging him step by step until the final lap as both runners broke Phillips  Previous National record (8:59.9) . Phillip ran 8:56.93 with Jacob running 8:58.Phillips 62 second last lap sealed the victory. Others in the race also ran PRs with Dylan Majerus (Vallley United) in 9:31, Roadrunner teammate Erik Rodriguez placed 4th with a PR of 9:38.50, Andrew Wilson (Redlands) 6th with 9:45.57 and Aidan Morris (Highland) 10th with 9:52.36 for a PR and National qualifying mark. 8th grader Austin Tamagno (Brea)  battled and ran a great 3000 meters for 2nd place with 8:58.45 in the Intermediate boys division 
     On Saturday the team was split between 2 events. Claire Graves competed at the Calfornia State Hershey games winning the 1600 meter run in 5:26 . The rest of the team competed in the 1500 meter run at Cerritos . Jack Keough Lansford competed in the Bantam boys 1500 taking 3rd after competing at a swim meet 1 hour prior.   The Youth boys 1500 meter race again was exciting as many Roadruners obtained PRs. Phillip Rocha won handily the 1500 meter run with 4:09.46 but Xolan Brown had a big break through taking third with 4:18.59. In Previous years 4:18 would have won Nationals . Erik Gonzalez placed 6th with a PR of 4:28.71.  Austin Tamagno placed 2nd with a 4:09.27 in the IB 1500. Aric Crowell (Claremont) placed 2nd in the Young mens 1500 (age 16-18) with 4:12.87 for a PR. The Youth boys 3200 meter relay team won by 21 seconds with a national leading mark of 8:39.66. The team consisting of Xolan Brown, Andrew Wilson, Alexis Gonzales and Phillip Rocha ran 90 minutes after their 1500 meter race. The youth girls team took first in the same relay with Samantha Aguilar, Kessy Uribes (Redlands), Jzsanessa Lndstrom (Apple Valley) , and Claire Graves returning from the Hershey meet ran 10:27.03 for the nations 9th fastest time.
     On Sunday Phillip won his 4th gold running 1:59.98 in the youth boys 800 but Xolan Brown ran 2:02.75 for 5th . Sydney La Chausse (Highland) won the Intermediate girls 2000 meter steeplechase and Ricardo Sanchez (Riverside) placed 2nd in the Intermediate boys race.
