The Southern California Roadrunners competed at the Chino Flash Halloween Cross County Festival held at Prado Dam Regional Park November 3rd winning 5 team plaques in 8 age group categories.Many of the runners ran PRs and have improved tremondously since the season began in September. The team is preparing for the Junior Olympic Cross country championships to be held in December in San Antonio , Texas with qualifying rounds beginning in 2 weeks.
The 8-under girls team placed 3rd behind Allura Markow's(San Bernardino) 10th place finish runnning 7:26.0 for a PR over the 2000 meter course. Teammate Alexis Fallejo (Pomona) placed 20th with 8:43.4. Mia Barcelo (Walnut) placed 21st with 8:43.7 . Angelina Diaz (Pomona) was 24th with 9:07.6.
The 8-under boys placed 4th but are rapidly improving with Stephen Martinez (Pomona) taking 6th overall with a PR of 9:10.93. 5 yr old Prince Watkins (Fontana) and his 6 year old brother Smooth Watkins ran PRs of 9:52.60 and 9:54.12 to take 15th and 16th overall on the 2000 meter course. Samuel Uribe (Highland) placed 10:39.55 for 20th and Adrian Paez (Covina) making his racing debut placed 28th with 13:25.78.
The 9-10 year old girls competed at the 3000 meter distance. Ria Perenski (Redlands) was the top girl for the team taking 18th with13:04.12. Close behind was Emeline Myung (Rancho Cucamonga) in 19th with 13:08.20. Emma Miller (Loma Linda) placed 24th with13:25.03. Toni Fallejo was 28th with 13:40.99 and Daisy Rodriguez (La Puente) was 36th with 14:24.90.
Alex Miller ((Loma Linda) placed 3d overall in the boys 9-10 age group covering the 3000 meter cours with a PR of 11:23.68. Dakota Tate (Apple Valley) placed 21st with 13:42.32 and Diego Uribe (Highland) placed 29th with a 2 minute improvement with17:24.75.
The 11-12 girls team placed 3rd overall with 10 teams competing finishing behind distance powers McFarland and Equalizers but now ahead of many local teams that were ahead of them at the beginning of the season. Olivia Paez (Covina) showed some grit running a PR and having a kick to finish 2nd overall with 10:52.30. Lindsay Calderon (Apple Valley) ran a PR with 11:43.58 to take 12th. Rini Perensik (Redlands) placed 14th with 11:51.36. Myah Peters (Apple Valley) continues to improve despite fallng near the finish after tangling feet with another competitor placing 21st with 12:22.93. Guadalupe Perez (Walnut) was 22nd with 12:26.89, Gabi Rivera (Walnut) 23rd wih 12:39.14, Cailtlin Miller (Loma Linda) 25th with 12:24.25, Morgan Taylor (Redlands) 34th 13:05.29 , Mia Novoa (Rancho Cucamong) 39th 13:13.2 , Jalina Lindstrom (Apple Valley) 13:18.26 40th and Gladys Santiago (Walnut) 50th with 14:38.96.
The 11-12 boys team continues to improve running at full strength for the 1st time this season and winning the team competition. Kevin Ramos (Riverside) who is the brother of Rubidoux HS standout Luis Ramos placed 2nd close behind National champion Maxwell Wilson of San Diego with a PR of 10:15.52. Connor Taylor (Redlands) ran his best race this season taking 6th overall witha PR of10:49.01. Zac Nichols (Redlands) placed 7th overall in his 1st race with 10:50.69 . Thomas Ear (Pomona) placed 9th overall with10:52.31. Antonio Diaz (Pomona) was the 5th man taking 13th overall with 11:25.53. Others competing were Newcomers Mario Taveres (Riverside) 15th. 11:52.40, Trevor Benson (Walnut) 12:13.30 , Victor Macedo (Riverside) 22nd 12:46.78. Mike Leong (Highland) ran a PR for 29th with 13:37.84 and was followed by Nicholas Malooly (Pomona) 31st with 13:46.80.
The 13-14 girls team placed 3rd led by Chloe Leong (Rowland Heights) with 16:25.81 on the 4000 meter course as she placed 8th overall. Arabella Cockerham (Redland) contiues to impress taking 10th overall with 16:44.97 and was followed by Carrisa Myung in 12th with 16:53.73. Heather Uribe (Highland) placed 19h with 18:08.80. Angie Novoa (Fontana) place 21st and Jzsanessa Linstrom (Apple Valley plaed 27th with 18:39.17.
The 13-14 boys despite missing several key runners still placed 3rd as a team led by Isaias Ramirez (Riverside) 3rd place finish with a PR of 13:30.81 for 4000 meters. Alberto Gonzalez placed 12th with 14:50.71 followed by Jacobo Raya (Riveside) 14th 15:05.71. Max Balderas (Pomona) wasthe deciding factor as the team was tied with defending National youth boys champions South Orange County Wildcats as he placed 19th just ahead of the Wildcats runner with 15:49.93 .
