Portage's Bliss earns Gatorade state track honor

BLISS EARNS GATORADE STATE HONOR: Portage graduate Tori Bliss has been named the Gatorade Indiana Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Bliss, a Louisiana State recruit, broke the meet record in the shot put at the IHSAA state finals this season. Bliss also defended her crown at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals.

Amy Weissenbach of Harvard-Westlake (Calif.) won the national award.

NEVILLE MISSES 400 FINALS AT USA JR/SR. CHAMPIONSHIPS: Former Olympian David Neville (Merrillville) placed 12th Friday in the 400-meter semifinals at the USA Jr./Sr. Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Neville finished in 45.85 and didn't qualify for today's finals
