Phillip Rocha breaks the Youth Boys National Record in the 3000 meter run in 8:59.75.7



The Southern California Roadrunners competed at the Pasadena Running Roses Track Invitational on May 19-20 running in slightly warm conditions. Many PRs were run despite the heat and a pending National record was made.

The Youth boys 3000 meter run was the highlight of the meet as Jacob Ogden of the South Orange County Wildcats announced he was seeking a National record that day. The meet officials obliged by running that division seperate as they coned off the turns of the track while the Youth girls and Intermediate boys ran their respective races before hand. Phillip Rocha ( 7 time national champion) was willing to oblige as he led the race from the start and never looked back running a sub 9 minute 3000 meter with 8:59.76 with Jacob running 9:00. Roadrunner teammates followed in suit with some running PRs with Erik Gonzalez 3rd (9:52.77), Andrew Wilson 4th (9:57.48 PR), Aidan Morris 5th (10:19.16 PR), Gabriel Lucatero 6th (10:20.70 PR), Tyler Flores 7th (10:29.12), Manuel Alvarez 9th (10:37.08 PR), Zafir Abou Zamzam (10th), Mark Richey (11th) and Anthony Novoa 12th.

Alexandra Gushue won the Youth girls 3000 with a PR of 11:00.35 and Samantha Aguilar 2nd (11:1`9.94 PR). Martin Ochoa ran a PR of 9:48 to win the Intermediate boys 3000 meter run. Earlier in the day Sofia Abou Zamzam won the Midget girls 1500 m race walk with a PR of 11:09 and Mikey Leong took 2nd in the Midget boys RW with a PR of 10:56.

The following day the Roadrunners ran in the blistering heat and fast track with temperatures in the 90s dominating the 1500 m run in the Youth girls and Youth boys divisions. Claire Graves won the YG 1500 with 4:59 with Alexandra Gushue 2nd with 5:06 PR and Samantha Aguilar 3rd in 5:10. The Youth boys finished 1-2-3-4-5 with most running PRs and National qualifying marks. Xolan Brown won the YB 1500 with 4:26.49 leading start to finish with Andrew Wilson finishing fast with a PR of 4:26.93. Alexis Gonzalez finished third with 4:28.56 PR and Erik Gonzalez 4th with 4:29.03 PR. Improving Aidan Morris ran 4:40.93 for 5th for a PR. Austin Tamagno ran an impressive PR to win outright the Intermediate boys 1500 with 4:08.31 PR with Martin Ochao 2nd 4:19.64 PR and Ricardo Sanchez 3rd in 4:25.53 PR.. Jonathan Jimenez ran a PR for 5th with 4:35.48.

Phillip Rocha won the YB 800 with a PR of 2:02 in the heat.
