Palmetto Track and Field trio qualifies for Championships

Three Palmetto Track and Field Club members qualified for the National USATF Junior Olympic Championships to be held in California by placing in the top three in their events at the USATF Region III Junior Olympic Championships in Richmond, Va. recently

Trey Blanton won the young men's decathlon (5,756 points), was second in the javelin (149'5) and third in the pole vault (14'5).

Jonathan Lunn won the bantam boys 1500m (5:13.6) and was fourth in the 800m (2:39).

Allie Nicosia was second in the young women's pole vault (11'5).

A number of other team members finished in the top eight in their events.

Andrew Chavous was fourth in the youth boys 200m hurdles (28.7 sec.) and sixth in the 100m hurdles (15.7 sec.).

Hope Bennett was fifth in the intermediate girls pole vault (8'11).

Chad Reynolds was sixth in the young men's 2000m steeplechase (7:57) and seventh in the 5000m (19:02).

Ashley Cady was sixth in the intermediate girls 100m hurdles (19.5 sec.).

Antonio Jones was sixth in the intermediate boys high jump (5'9) and was eighth in the triple jump (39') and the javelin (117'11).

DeAndre Jones was seventh in the youth boys 100m (12.3 sec.) and eighth in the long jump (18'6).

Kara Dixon was eighth in the bantam girls 1500m (5:59).
