The Off Season

With cross country season wrapping up, it’s time to start thinking about what’s next.  Some athletes do indoor track or play a winter sport like basketball, skiing, or swimming.  For those of you that are out of a sport until track, it’s important that you have a plan for your off season.  Lots of track programs have winter training, so look into that.  If your team doesn’t train together during the winter, ask your track or cross country coach what you should be doing to stay in shape.  I think one of the most important things is to have a goal for your off season, just as you would during the season.  Also, make specific plans for when you will work out.  Winter can be a great time to cross train- biking, swimming, or yoga, for example.  If you’re going to run outside, make sure you’re wearing plenty of clothes so you’re warm and won’t get injured.  Warm-ups are also a lot more important in cold weather.  You should probably shoot for doing double what you would normally do in order to prevent injuries.  For a successful track season, start training now.

I’m doing swim team for the first time this year.
