Brianna McGhee didn't break the state record in the girls 100-meter high hurdles Thursday, but the Omaha North junior did beat the state record holder in the event.

McGhee moved into third on the state's all-time charts with the :14.27 she ran in the finals of the Harold Scott Invitational track and field meet at the Beechner Athletic Complex/Scott Track. Her gold-medal performance came against senior teammate LaQue Moen-Davis, the state record-holder who finished second with a :14.42.

The :14.27, however, was not a meet record; Moen-Davis ran a :14.05 last year.

It's only the second time Moen-Davis has lost a 100 hurdle race in high school, the other coming last year at districts (also at Beechner) when McGhee edged her. Moen-Davis, first on the all-time charts with the :13.99 she ran two years ago at state, won her third straight gold medal a week later in state while McGhee took second.

There's pressure running against LaQue, but it also makes me more determined knowing how good she is,'' said McGhee, who also won the 200 (:25.60) and ran a leg on North's victorious 400 relay team. The Vikings won the team title in the 11-team field.

I just go as hard as I can and then see who wins.''

McGhee is hoping her teammate can push her past the state record. I'm trying to go for :13.8 this year,'' McGhee said. I know I can do it. I just need to keep working hard and get the right conditions.''

Moen-Davis, a Texas A&M recruit, won the other two events she holds the state records in -- the long jump and triple jump. Her leap of 19 feet, 6 ½ inches Thursday was a meet record, beating her marks of 19-6 the past two years. She took the triple jump with a 39-4 ¾ (the best in the state this spring) on her second jump, her final attempt on the cool, windy day.

This was Moen-Davis' first full meet of the season. She missed the Omaha Benson Invitational two weeks ago because of illness and the ACT test. She was held out of the Dick Jones/Omaha Central Invitational on Monday for disciplinary reasons.

She also has been slowed by a knee injury that cut short her triple jump day.

I've been looking at the top marks in the charts and I was disappointed I wasn't in there, so it was nice to have some marks of my own,'' Moen-Davis said. Bri did really good today, but not running for half the season definitely hurt me.''

Lincoln North Star's Mohammad Hamden, Lincoln Southeast's Taylor Johnson and Lincoln Pius X's Garrett Teel had the top city performances in the meet. Hamden, a sophomore, broke the boys meet record in the 800 (1:56.30) and also won the 1,600 (4:23.03).

Johnson recorded the fastest girls 800 time in the state this season: The senior Bradley recruit finished in 2:19.24. Teel, another sophomore, captured both the 200 (:22.74) and 400 (:49.52) while running on the Thunderbolts' winning 1,600 relay.

Other Lincoln boys winning individual golds were Pius X's Aaron Frey in the shot put (49-5 ¼), Lincoln High's Merrill Holden in the high jump (6-3) and East's Andy Neal in the 300 intermediate hurdles (:40.07).

Lincoln's other girls individual winners were Southeast's Sophie Harano in the pole vault (10-0), North Star's Keanna Moody in the 400 (1:00.00) and the Knights' Chloe Gustafson in the 3,200 (11:30.74).
