North Royalton High School track and field: Bears dominate at meets By John Blake

North Royalton's Troy Richert.JPGJIM VOTAVA/SUN NEWSNorth Royalton’s Troy Richert has been a key member of the team this season in both individual and relay events. The North Royalton track teams cruised by Normandy, 103-34 on the boys side and 99-38 in the girls action.

North Royalton boys placed first in 13 of the 17 events. The Lady Bears came out on top in 11 events.

Placing first for the boys squad in field events were George Kontoveros in the shot put with a distance of 45 feet, ½ inche, Stachon Warren in the high jump (6-1), Jake Smolik in the long jump (19-10) and Bobby Berg in the pole vault (10-6).

In track events, winners were Tyler Grubb in the 110-meter hurdles (16.21 seconds), Warren in the 100 (11.74), the 800 relay team of Logan Pearce, Carl Lint, Brett Bomba and Troy Richert (1:36.0), Matt Ode in the 1,600 (4:52) and 800 (2:13), Charlie Altizer in the 400 (54.82), Josh Shook in the 300 hurdles (42.21), Richert in the 200 (23.45) and the 1,600 relay team of Shook, Mardell Pixton, Altizer and Bomba (3:41).

Placing first for the Lady Bears were Mariana Lopes in the high jump (5-2), Nicole Hudec in the long jump (16-5) and 100 (13.0), Briana Krieger in the pole vault (10-0), the 3,200 relay team of Bev Vetovitz, Allison Harbart, Dana Tomasello and Alli Kall (10:17), Ellyn Hanford in the 100 hurdles (16.28) and 300 hurdles (50.49), Harbart in the 1,600 (5:40), the 400 relay team of Kayleigh Simonelli, Hudec, Tyler Walsh and Hanford (52.78), Tomasello in the 800 (2:34) and Natalie Vidacs in the 3,200 (12:41).

North Royalton also put up a strong performance at the Dover Tornado Relays. The girls were first out of 11 teams and the boys were second out of eight teams.

Placing first for the Lady Bears were the 3,200 relay team of Harbart, Rachel Blasko, Brittany Bielak and Tomasello, Hudec in the 200 and Hanford in the 300 hurdles.

Finishing second were Hudec in the 100, Tomasello in the 1,600 and the 400 relay team of Hudec, Hanford, Alliah Simonelli and Devon Albright, Harbart in the 800 and the 1,600 relay team of Atiyyah Harron, Hanford, Simonelli and Samantha Narducci.

Hanford was also third in the 100 hurdles.

Placing first for the boys were was the 400 relay team of Ben Horvat, Lint, Pearce and Bomba. The foursome also finished second in the 800 relay.

Third-place finishers were Richert in the 100, Shook in the 300 hurdles, Jacob Poldruhi in the 3,200 and the 1,600 relay team of Bomba, Altizer, Lint and Shook.
