Hello, everyone! My name is Kenan Pala. I’m an 8th grader at Francis Parker Middle School, and I plan on attending Francis Parker High School next year. (I know, big difference!)

Outside of school, I’m an avid runner. I’m a sprint triathlete and a member of a triathlete club called Breakaway Training. I train and participate in half-marathons, 5,000 meters, and 10,000 meters.

Right now, I’m training for the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon on June 3 and America’s Finest City Half Marathon in late August. Last year, I ran the half-marathon in 1 hour, 37 minutes, so I will be trying to break that time and hopefully get under an hour and a half.

I am currently undergoing a training schedule that involves 7- to 13-mile runs on the weekends and medium-distance sprint endurance sets during the week.

The medium-distance sprint endurance sets are about 4 miles, and I usually do half fast and half cool-down followed by a 30-minute recovery on the bike. Combining all of this training, I average 42 miles of running and 60 miles of biking a week. Also, I enjoy running 5k races every other weekend. My personal record time for a 5k is 17 minutes, 57 seconds.

As I move on to high school, I would like to join the varsity cross-country team at my school and help my team win the championship.

I would like to end this post with a nice quote about running: “Busy streets are not busy at 4 a.m. Get at it!”
