Josh Hernandez, 14, advances to USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in discuss
Joshua Hernandez, a 14-year-old who competed in the discuss at this weekend’s Region 10 Junior Olympics Track and Field Championship at UTEP’s Kidd Field, has qualified for nationals.
Hernandez, who competes for Team Bliss, threw a region best 46.72 meters in the youth boys division.
He will now compete at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships July 23-29 at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore.
Hernandez, who will be a freshman at Del Valle High School, also qualified in the shot put with a toss of 12.54 meters.
His younger sister Victoria Hernandez narrowly missed out on nationals finishing sixth in the youth girls discuss with toss of 22.30 meters.
The top five athletes in each event qualify for the National Championships.
