Alexandria’s Wensia Johnson and Bethany Hasz earned multiple first place finishes at the Hershey’s State track and field meet June 25, with Bryna DelCastillo grabbing a solo first place.

The three become eligible to advance to the North American Final in Hershey, Pennsylvania August 4-7.

Johnson took home first place finishes in the girls’ 13-14 year old 100-meter dash, the 200-meter and the long jump, while Hasz took top honors in the 13-14 year old 800-meter dash and 1,600-meter dash.

DelCastillo won the 800-meter run in the 11-12 year old division.

Along with Johnson and Hasz, Bethany Miller, Bryna DelCastillo, Wesley Graves, Patricia Johnson, JeAnna Miller, Camille Johnson, Tate Breitkreutz, Ethan Schroeder and Logan Runge competed for Alexandria at the state level. The athletes were coached by Luke Erickson.

Only winners at local meets advance to a district and/or state meet, and from there, only winners at the state meet are eligible to advance to the North American Finals (NAF).

Not every winner advances to the NAF. Winners of state meets are placed in a regional pool of finalists and become eligible to be one of the 480 chosen for the Final.

Each participant selected for the NAF receives an all-expense-paid trip to Hershey, PA for four days of events and track competition at the Milton Hershey School.

The Hershey’s Track and Field Games has been a national event and now a North American event for the past 33 years. The games are the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America, with hundreds of thousands of children competing every year.
