Carpinteria local Timothy Jimenez will be heading to Baltimore later this month to compete at the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships.
The 14-year-old has qualified in two events, the long jump and triple jump, at the Region 15 Junior Olympic Championships at Cerritos College in Downey, Calif.
Jimenez was second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.20 meters. The winning mark was set by Justice Selmon at 11.25.
In the long jump, Jimenez placed fifth with a jump of 5.45 meters. Justes Nance won the event with a distance of 6.05 meters. The top five in each event qualified for nationals.
The J.O. Nationals in Baltimore begin on July 23 and runs through July 30.
On the same trip to the East Coast, Jimenez has also been invited to participate in the FBU Top Gun football camp in Virginia, an invitation-only program that helps identify and develop the top youth football players nation-wide.
