Jayda Lunsford poses for a picture with Olympic legend Carl Lewis at the University of Houston Track & Field meet, where Jayda won the 10-and-under long jump title.
Corsicana’s Jayda Lunsford, 9, who is rapidly becoming a force in youth track & field, won the 10-and-under long jump title at the University of Houston Track & Field Meet last week.
Lunsford, who has competed and finished in the Top 10 in national events since she was 8, competed in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes in Houston, but her best event is the long jump.
She finished eighth in the 10-and-under long jump in the 2013 Junior Olympics and took home fourth in the same event in the 2014 Junior Olympics.
Jayda won the long jump title in Houston with a leap of 12-6, and met Olympic long jump legend Carl Lewis afterward.
“Carl Lewis told me he was impressed with my jump,’’ said Jayda, who won’t turn 10 until July.
