Idaho athletes aim high at 2007 Simplot Games
 
POCATELLO, Idaho Expect local athletes to make their presence known at this year’s Simplot Games.
 
Pocatello alone brings five state champions to the competition and other prospective stars.
 
Gate City Track Club
 
The Gate City Track Club is primarily comprised of runners from Pocatello’s Highland High School. Returning from Gate City are Taylor Farnsworth and Camille Marchand.
 
Farnsworth is an all-American and the Idaho state cross country champion. Only the top 15 cross country runners in the country are labeled “all-Americans.”
 
Marchand is the Idaho state champion in the 100 and 200 meter dash and will be competing against athletes like Bianca Knight and Ebony Collins.
 
Portneuf Track Club
 
Century High School athletes compete for Pocatello’s Portneuf Track Club. Top returnees include Chio Lopez and Bethany McInturf.
 
Lopez is the Idaho state champion in the 3200-meter run. This year he will be competing in the 1600 meters against Farnsworth.
 
McInturf is the Idaho state champion in cross country and the 800-meter, and 1600-meter events. 
 
Indian Track Club
 
The Indian Track Club includes members of the Pocatello High School track team. Returning for the Indian Track Club is Terissa Sparks and Logan Henderson.
 
Sparks is the state champion in the triple jump and medaled at state in the high jump and long jump.
 
Henderson is a triple jumper and hurdler. He specializes in the 110 meter hurdles, but at Simplot he will compete in the 60 meter hurdles.
 
Other local athletes expected to shine at Games
 
In addition to the athletes from Pocatello, other great Idaho athletes will be representing the Gem state. The Flying Tigers from Idaho Falls look to showcase state pole vault champion Ariel Johnson from Moscow, and jumper Parker Ward from Meridian.
 
Look out for other Idaho athletes that did well at last year’s Games and look to make their mark again at this year’s Games.
 
In boy’s high jump Brandon McNew from Donnelly Track Club out of Twin Falls placed third last year with a jump of 6’3”.
 
Karleigh Gempler of YMCA Team Idaho placed third in the girl’s 3200-meter run. Her time was 11:31.67.
 
In girl’s high jump, Kaysee Brunel, from YMCA Team Idaho in Boise, placed third with a height of 5”1”. From Burley Track Club, Diana Blauer tied for fourth place.
 
In the girl’s pole vault Chelsea Barr of Boise’s Team YMCA Idaho placedfifth.
