Harvard-Westlake standout Courtney Corrin wasted little time making an impact in the long jump Saturday at the eighth IAAF World Youth Track and Field Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine. Corrin, the state and New Balance National Outdoor champion, produced a wind-legal effort of 20 feet, 8 1/2 inches on her first jump to lead all 12 qualifiers entering today's final.


Blake Haney, a rising senior at Stockdale, will race for a world 1,500-meter championship after he won his qualifying heat Thursday in Donetsk, Ukraine, at the IAAF World Youth Championships.

Donetsk, Ukraine, Wednesday, July 10, 2013 – Shanti Veronica Pereira became the first Singaporean  female to run the 100 metres in less than 12 seconds when she clocked a time of 11.89s in the heats at the 8th IAAF World Youth Championships.

Seventeen-year-old Liam Kennell dreams of running his way into the Olympics. The dream is in the starting blocks this week for Kennell and four other young Vancouver Islanders as they prepare to compete in the IAAF World Youth Track and Field Championships today through Sunday in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Jeminise Parris will be the first Trinidad and Tobago athlete on show at the 2013 IAAF World Youth Track and Field Championships, in Donetsk, Ukraine. Parris has been drawn in lane five in the third of six women’s 100 metres hurdles preliminary round heats. She will compete at 2.42 this morning (T&T time). The top three finishers in each heat will advance automatically to tomorrow’s semifinal round.

Trinidad Team T&T’s eight-member contingent left for Donetsk, Urkaine for the eighth IAAF World Youth (under-18) Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon. 

Justin Northwest’s Desiree Freier will be in Ukraine from July 10 to 14 to compete in the IAAF World Youth Championships for Team USA. Freier, who owns the UIL state pole vaulting record, qualified for the tournament after placing first in pole vaulting in the World Youth Track and Field Championships from June 25-26 in Indiana.

Cummings High School’s Isaiah Moore wrapped up his participation in the world youth championships for track and field with a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles Friday at Donetsk, Ukraine.
