HUBBELL-CONOLLOY FINISH STRONG AT HERSHEY TRACK AND FIELD FINALS
TODD HUBBELL PLACES 5TH CLAIRE CONNOLLY 7TH
Softball Throwers Claire Connolly and Todd Hubbell from Little Falls recently competed in the Hershey's Track and Field Games North American Final on Saturday August 7 at Henry Hershey Field, on the campus of the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA. A great summer of competition for Eric Hubbell ended with his fifth place finish in the National Finals. Hubbell finished with a meet distance of 169 feet two inches.
In the Girls National Final, Claire Connolly placed seventh with her throws adding up to 95 feet and 11.75 inches. Congratulations to both local athletes on their fantastic finishes.
Earlier this summer both local athletes Hubbell and Connolly won the NYS West Hershey State Finals with a throw of 105' 5 in the 9-10 age group, while Hubbell won the 11-12 age group with a toss of 148'. The State meet was held at Herkimer Central School Athletic Complex on June 19th.
Dave Williams, NYS West Coordinator from Ilion notes that both athletes were selected from eight states (NYS West, NYS East, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, Washington, DC, and Quebec, Pennsylvania) to represent Region 7 in the Hershey North American Finals.
Athletes from all 50 states and all Canadian Provinces will be at the meet. Connolly and Hubbell competed in local meets held in Little Falls and Herkimer to advance to the State Finals.
Athletes will arrived at the meet site Thursday, August 5th and returned home Sunday, August 8th. The Hershey Company picked up the cost of all related expenses during their stay at Elizabethtown College (Opening Ceremonies), visit Hershey Chocolate Factory and Hershey Park and the track meet and Closing Ceremonies at the Milton Hershey School during the course of this four day event that is, More Than A Track Meet.
The other four NYS West Champions advancing will be Rachael Miller (13-14 Standing Long Jump) from Baldwinsville, Imani Obieke (11-12 200 Meter Dash) from Rochester, Austyn Morgan (13-14 100 Meter Dash) from Jamesville, and Lucky Edwards (11-12 Standing Long Jump) from Rochester.
Obieke is making her third appearance at the North American Finals after winning the 9-10 50 Meter Dash in 2008 and the 11-12 100 Meter Dash in 2009. Miller is also making her third trip after winning the 11-12 Standing Long Jump last year. Morgan will be returning in his final year in the program after qualifying in the 11-12 Standing Long Jump in 2008.
