South Coast runners took a number of titles at the Hershey’s Track and Field Games Oregon State Finals in Eugene last weekend.

One of the local athletes, Morgan Baird of Coquille, was chosen to represent the Pacific Northwest in the Hershey’s Track And Field Games North American Finals in early August.

Baird won the softball throw in the girls 9-10 age group with a throw of 116 feet, one-half inch.

Other winners included Joselyn Kaufman of Coquille in the girls 13-14 1,600-meter run; Sawyer Heckard of Coos Bay in the boys 13-14 1,600-meter run; Sailor Hutton of Bandon in the girls 11-12 800-meter run; Chase Howerton of Coos Bay in the boys 11-12 800-meter run; Darian Wilson of Coquille in the girls 13-14 softball throw; Giovanni Byers of North Bend in the boys 11-12 400-meter dash; and a pair of relay teams. The Coos Bay group of Elise Martin, Callista Martin, Cadie Callaway and Ravyn Miranda won the girls 11-12 4x100 relay and the Coos Bay grouup of Howerton, Jordan Miles, Jacob Carpenter and Micah Tardie won the boys 11-12 relay.

Runners-up included Kaylee Delzotti of Coos Bay in the girls 9-10 standing long jump and 200-meter dash; Coel Stark of North Bend in the boys 9-10 100-meter dash; Tardie in the boys 11-12 standing long jump; Ty Hampton of North Bend in the boys 11-12 softball throw; Jackson Stallard of Powers in the boys 13-14 standing long jump; and two Coquille relays. The girls 13-14 team of Esabella Mahlum, Tara Edwards, McKailey Landmark and Wilson as second in the 13-14 age group, while the boys team of Justin Schmitt, Keith Christensen, Austin Layton and Brady Jarrett was second in the same division.
