Winter is here and Cross Country season is over.

As you continue to get your mileage in, and get ready for track season, consider participating in local community fun runs. Most of them are hosted for charity, so the funds go to a great cause. The holidays are the perfect time to join in a race and show some holiday spirit.

If your family is like mine, the holidays are a big deal. We decorate the house and wrap gifts for each other, but most of all, run-in holiday races. We always run races for fun, as a family.

Running holiday races can be fun because you can run at your own pace and run with your family for fun. Participants get decked out in their favorite holiday outfits, Santa costumes, or wear red and green. You do not have to worry about the stress of racing, pace times or placing; you just get to be yourself, run and enjoy the event.

During the month of December, nearly each community hosts some type of holiday-themed fun run. Do a Google search, find one near you, and sign up with your family and friends. It’s a chance to take silly photos and just have fun, for a great cause.
