Halsel to compete in World Youth Trials

Warren Central’s Donovan Halsel will be part of a three-man track and field all-star team that will compete in the World Youth Trials on June 28-29 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Halsel, the two-time defending KHSAA Class AAA boys’ high jump champion, will team with Butler’s Tre’tez Kinnaird and Bullitt East’s Trevor Troutman in an attempt to become members of the 40-person Team U.S. World Youth Championship squad. The world championship event will run July 6-10 in Lille, France.

Halsel, who is nationally ranked in the high jump, won his second straight state title this spring with a jump of 6 feet, 10 inches.

Kinnaird won the Class AAA 800 meter championship, while Troutman was the Class AA discus state champion.

The event in July features the world’s top 16- and 17-year-olds. All trial participants were required to meet qualifying standards set by the United States of America Track and Field association.
