John Gilboy can one day say that he was part of history.
The Capital High senior is a member of Carroll College’s first full track and field recruiting class since the program was recently reinstated for the first time since the early 1970s. The Saints announced eight signees Wednesday.
“We are impressed with not only the overall number of kids we have signed but also the quality throughout this class,” head coach Matt Morris said. “The big thing with this group is that we expect them to make an immediate impact on the track next year, but they will also be great fits academically at Carroll ... This group will lay the foundation for the future success of our program.”
Gilboy is on pace to earn eight varsity letters for Capital, four each in cross country and track. A two-time all-stater in cross country, as a junior, he placed fifth at the 2009 Class AA meet in Missoula. Last fall, he took fourth at state at the Bill Roberts Course, running a personal best of 16:53 and leading the Bruins to a third-place trophy in the team event.
