At 14 years of age, Jillian Forsey of Kippens continues to show just how fast she is and is being rewarded for her speed by being selected to national and international events.

She was notified this week she is the top contender for the atlantic provinces and six states of the United States to compete at the International Hershey Track and Field meet in Hershey, Pa.

It was in June that Forsey broke the provincial record for the 1,600-metre race with a time of 5 minutes and 24 seconds. She broke her own record by 30 seconds.

Though that race was held in June, she never got notification until this week when all meets in the United States were completed.

This past weekend at the 2009 Canada Summer Games tryouts at Pearlgate Track and Field Complex in Mount Pearl, Forsey competed and finished the 1,500-metre with a time of five minutes and one second, which was fast enough to make the standard for the Canada Games.

She will now travel to Charlottetown, P.E.I. next month to compete and represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
