Dupont 17th at cross country nationals

(December 8, 2007) - Fairport senior Pat Dupont finished 17th and Victor senior Zach Rivers 28th at the Foot Locker National Championship high school cross country race in San Diego today.

Dupont, the Monroe County, Section V, state and state federation champion, ran the 5k (3.1-mile) course in 15 minutes, 43 seconds and missed being named to All-America status (top 15) by just two seconds. Rivers finished in 15:55 on the course at Balboa Park.

Dupont’s finish is the third highest for a boy representing Section V (Rochester area) in the event’s 29-year history. He and Rivers are the seventh and eighth boys from the Rochester area to run the national event, which includes only the top 40 runners from the United States.

Aquinas graduate Noel Bateman finished 24th of 32 runners in 2005 with a time of 15:32.
