Oregon 6a State Predictions Boys
The Favorite: Dan Oekerman (Beaverton)
Top two Challengers: Kyle Thompson (Central Catholic), Julian Heninger (Lakeridge)
The Sleepers: Matthew Kingzett (Westview), Reilly Bloomer (South Eugene)
Our Pick: Dan Oekerman, last years state champion will be given a serious run for his money by Thompson and Heninger.
The Favorite: Dan Oekerman
Top two Challengers: Julian Heninger, Kyle thompson,
The Sleepers: Jackson Darland (Sheldon), Jackson Haselnus (Barlow), Kenny Freeman (Roseburg)
Our Pick: Upset alert! Kenny Freeman has not lost a 1500 all year and ran a season best at his district meet. Freeman will be fresh for the 1500 (unlike most of his competitors). Keep an eye out for Heninger who will be running his last race with his last change of winning a state title.
The Favorite: Alec Smith (Westview)
Top two Challengers: Joshua Kellebrew (David Douglas), Blake Spencer (North Medford)
The Sleepers: Ryan England (Glencoe)
Our Pick: Last years state champion is undefeated and has the fastest time in the state.
The Favorite: Erin Clark (South Eugene)
Top two Challengers: Ella Donaghu (Grant), Maggie Schmaedick (Sheldon) The Sleepers: Paige Rice
Our Pick: Erin Clark has run under 10:00 three times this year and her only defeat was at the Jesuit Relays in the 1500 where she finished third to Paige Rice and the sophomore sensation Alexa Efraimson (Camas).
The Favorite: Paige Rice
Top two Challengers: Piper Donaghu (Grant), Maggie Schmaedick
The Sleepers: Kelly O’Neil (Lakeridge)
Our Pick: Paige Rice. It seems like there are 4-5 girls that could win this race on the right day - our nod goes to the one that wears the crown from last year.
The Favorite: Tess Michaelson (Lincoln)
Top two Challengers: Piper Donaghu, Carmen Mejia (South Medford)
The Sleepers: Mahala Norris, the freshman has worked her way down from 2:30 to a time of 2:14.
Our Pick: Piper Donaghu. Michaelson is the class of the field but the 400/800 double is as tough as they come.
