D'Asia Duncan had a good meet at the AAU Districts
Editor's Note: Dee Dee took Gold for 11-year old in all three of her events. The 80M Hurdles with a time of 13.70 ranked her #1 in nation. In the Long Lump she went 15'4.50 and jumped 4'8" in the High Jump for a personal best.
Some comments from Dee Dee after the weekend
"It was important for me to listen and do everything my coach (Coach White), my trainer (Coach Mo), my parents and Justin Gatlin said to me before districts. I said a prayer like I do every morning and just got into a competitive mindset. My biggest goal was to clear a 4'8 in high jump and I was so happy I did it. My coach told me to relax and trust myself and my training and that's what I did on my last attempt."
"I finally did it, I finally cleared a 4’8, which was a big goal because I have been clearing 4'6 for the past two seasons, and with lots of patience and training I did it! I think I am even ready to attempt a 4'10 but, I'm just excited for my new PR" (Smiling)
"I won hurdles but, that was not my personal best. I am happy to be ranked #1 in MileSplit US and hurdling in the 13's but, I have a different goal that I will keep working towards."
"I am happy to be consistently jumping 15ft because after missing All American in JO 2018 I knew I had to change my approach so coach Mo has been working with me and I am trying hard to stop cycling for now when I jump (smiling). "
"There is still work to be done (Justin Gatlin words) so I will keep that in mind, I will keep my training in mind, my church family in mind, my Central CT Jaguars family in mind, my supporters in mind and my goals in mind. I will rest this week, train next week and then get ready for AAU Regionals the following week where I will compete in the 11 year old girls Pentathlon, High Jump, Long Jump and 80M Hurdles"
