When the season started, the Daniel Boone boy's cross country team made a list of goals that they gradually went about checking off.

They won their own Trailblazer Invitational, they took the state title after back-to-back runner-up finishes, they made it to the Nike Southeast Cross Regionals, and they became one of just 22 teams to advance to the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon.

Saturday was the final high school race they could run in 2014, and the Blazers left their final mark on this season with a 14th place showing on the country's highest stage.

The effort was highlighted by lead runner and senior Adam Barnard. The national All-American crawled across the line to a 5th place finish, just 14 seconds off the national champion time.

52 seconds later, fellow senior James Garst finished his prep career in 70th place, sophomore Ben Varghese was 78th, Josh Routh 129th and Mitch Bronstetter 180th. Zach Branham (196) and Nick Routh (198) rounded out the Boone roster.

Daniel Boone is the first team to ever qualify for cross country nationals in the Tri-Cities region.
