Thirteen members of the City of Bastrop Track Club have qualified for the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympics Meet to be held July 24-31 in Sacramento, California.
The local athletes advanced to the National Meet based on their performance in the USATF Region VI Meet, July 8-10 in Baton Rouge.
“The USATF National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championship is the largest and most visible youth athletic development program in the world,” said Evelyn Lenoir of the Bastrop Parks & Recreation Department. “Many of today's Olympic stars got their start by competing in the USATF Junior Olympics Track & Field Championship.
“We believe the experiences and memories gained will have a lasting effect for all of our athletes.”
Qualifying for Sacramento from the City of Bastrop Track Club were:
Arlana Miller (13-14 year-old age group) - long jump (15-2), second; 100-meter dash (12.93), third; 200-meter dash (26.76), fourth.
Alyssa Dismuke (11-12) - javelin (79-8.25), second; shot put (32-5.75), fourth.
Rochelle Craig (11-12) - 1500m race walk (12:46.49), second.
Raychelle Craig (11-12) - 1500m race walk (13.01.97), third.
Kassidy Henry (11-12) - long jump (12-8.25), fourth.
Sophie White (9-10) - 1500m race walk (12:50.57), fourth.
Johnny Burrell (17-18) - shot put (30-3), fifth.
James Carter (15-16) - shot put (34-5.75), fourth.
Tyrin Davis (15-16) - shot put (31-11), fifth.
Semaj Girtmon (13-14) - javelin (98-9.5), fourth.
Marqui Loche (9-10) - long jump (13-1.75), fourth.
Tré Odom (9-10) - 400m (1:11.53), fifth.
Quinterious Williams (15-16) - 1500m (4:35.70), fifth.
