Senior Clare Peabody finished in 15th place in the 1600-meters at 5 minutes, 2.96 seconds and missed the California Interscholastic Federation State track and field finals at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis.

Three Fontana athletes do well at CIF including Destiny Parker in the shot.

Amador Valley High senior Conner McKinnon took third place in the 800 meters at the CIF state track and field finals in Clovis on June 7.

In the 3200 meter run, Saugus junior Brian Zabilski placed 12th with a time of 9 minutes 4.64 seconds, just 10 seconds off the winning time.

The Cosumnes Oaks High School long jumper had just finished 12th in the finals of her event at the CIF State Track and Field Championships in Clovis on Saturday, a bit perplexed at why her best leap was a full foot shorter than what she recorded in Friday’s preliminaries.

Hannah Hull didn’t get the sub-5-minute mile she was hoping for at the state meet, but the Calaveras High junior did gain something valuable that could serve her well next year: experience.

he local high school sports season came to an end June 6-7 with the CIF track and field championships at Buchanan High in Clovis, and athletes from the Bay Valley Athletic League made sure to leave their mark. Junior Briana Guillory led the Deer Valley girls team as she competed in four events. Her best individual event was the 200 meters, as she finished the preliminaries in 24.21 seconds, coming in third in her heat and 12th overall. She was also 15th in the 100 with a time of 12.02.


Smith-Barnett places in top three at State. CLOVIS -- As Skyline High's Destiny Smith-Barnett moved to the front of her 200-meter race at the end of the curve on June 6 at the CIF state track and field preliminaries, a fan in the stands yelled, "She's breaking them down. Did you see that?" Yes, Smith-Barnett broke down her heat competition in the girls 100 and 200 meters at Buchanan High, then on June 7 produced top-three finishes in both event finals at Buchanan High in hot conditions.

 

Mount Shasta High School sophomore Chris Morzenti improved his personal record in the 1600m by nearly five seconds in Friday’s preliminary race at the CIF State Championship Meet in Clovis.

Webb, a junior at Big Bear High School, ran the 3200 meter event in nine minutes, 3.98 seconds. The CIF State Track and Field finals feature the best runners from around the state, no divisions. All athletes compete on the same track, running against each other and the clock. The 3200 has been called possibly the deepest field in state meet history.

The St. Mary's High girls 1600-meter relay team of Spencer Moore, Carly Schulz, Kenady Jackson and Chloe Jenkins placed fifth in the CIF state track and field championship finals on June 7. Jenkins made a big move into fifth on her 53.6-second anchor leg, and the Panthers, who finished with a time of 3:48.07, held off Deer Valley (3:48.44) and St. Mary's Academy-Inglewood (3:48.44). The Panthers were only .08 behind Oaks Christian-Westlake Village, which finished in fourth.

Hamilton's Christopher Jaeger and Orland's Yanette Munoz represented the Northern Section on Friday at the CIF track and field State Finals in Clovis. Jaeger, a junior, finished second in the high jump at the NSCIF Finals, but hit the state qualifying mark of 6 feet, 7 inches. At the CIF prelims, he showed a valiant effort, but couldn't surpass a jump of 6-foot-5, finishing in 18th place.
