Central Oregonians excel at Hershey’s state meet: A number of Central Oregon participants fared well at the Hershey’s Track & Field Games state meet earlier this month. In all, more than three dozen kids attended the state meet, staged July 2 at Hayward Field in Eugene, and they took home victories in seven events. Central Oregon winners of individual events were Dawson Cockman (11-12 boys 100 meters), Tucker Flannery (11-12 boys softball throw), Piper Flannery (11-12 girls 200), Olivia Brooks (11-12 girls 800) and Bethany Bachmeier (13-14 girls softball throw). Two relays also captured 400 relay titles. Brooks, Anniston Ward, Megan Cornett and Meghan Day won the 11-12 girls relay. Molly Boyle, Bachmeier, Michaela Miller and Sofia Ellington won the 13-14 girls relay.

The first-place marks from each event at the state meet will now be pooled with others in the region, which also consists of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, British Columbia and Yukon Territory. The participant with the best mark in each event from that group will be selected to represent the region at the Hershey’s national meet, scheduled for Aug. 6 in Hershey, Pa. The regional team will be announced on Friday.
