Jupiter’s Cavendish wins national triathlon championship

Jupiter resident Emma Cavendish, 9, placed first in the Ironkids National Triathlon Sept. 17. The competition was held in Des Moines, Iowa.

Emma, a Beacon Cove Intermediate School fourth-grader, finished the three-part race in a time of 26:09. The competition included a half-mile run, 4-mile bike and 1-mile run. The swimming leg was eliminated because of cold temperatures.

Emma, a long-time triathlete, competes with the Jupiter Dragons swim team. She swims six days a week, bikes 2-3 days a week and runs four days a week. She placed first in the Ironkids Florida regional race to earn a berth in the national competition.
