Carson runners compete at Junior Olympic cross country nationals Cross Country - USATF Junior Olympics Sunday, 12 December 2010 22:05
Carson City's Alex Drozdoff, Erika Sosa and Blanca Sosa competed at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Hoover, Ala.
Erika Sosa, a Carson High junior who represented the Silver State Striders, placed 72nd in the Intermediate Girls division (15-16 year olds) as she ran the 5-kilometer course at Veterans Park in a time of 21 minutes, 55 seconds. The time was 17 seconds than her performance at the Region 14 meet two weeks ago in Folsom, Calif.
Drozdoff, a Carson High freshman, placed 90th in the Youth Girls (13-14 year olds) race with a time of 16:06 over 4 kilometers. She finished as the No. 6 runner for the second-place Sacramento-based Buffalo Chips team.
Blanca Sosa, a fifth grade student at Seeliger Elementary, placed 179th in the Midget Girls division (11-12 year olds) with a time of 13:21 for 3 kilometers. She also ran for the Silver State Striders.
Nearly 3,000 age group runners competed in the meet on a day when the temperature reached a high of 57 degrees.
