FAIRFIELD Heights brothers Justin and Nicholais Lang (pictured) were part of the thousands of Sydney people who participated in the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon at the weekend.

The TRYathlon is said to be the world's largest triathlon for kids and is staged each year at Sydney Olympic Park.

The Lang brothers have been in training for the event for some time and braved the sweltering conditions to complete the course.

Fairfield Champion is teaming up with Sneaker Sports Wetherill Park to congratulate and give an award to an outstanding junior sportsperson each fortnight. Nominees must be aged between six and 17. Prizes include a $50 gift voucher from Sneakers Sports Wetherill Park. The Wetherill Park Cricket Club has received $80,000 from the state government for the construction of an awning at Prospect View Reserve. The funding comes from the NSW Government's Community Building Partnership program.

It was a bittersweet moment for former Marconi product Mark Schwarzer in Sunday's heartbreaking loss in the Asian Cup final. The Socceroo custodian became the most capped Socceroo in history, surpassing Alex Tobin's record of 87 caps. Schwarzer joined Marconi as a 14-year-old and rose to prominence through the Youth League.
