With the USATF Regional Championships, known as “state” to Texas pole vaulters, coming up in San Marcos July 11, Amalie Brewer is doing everything she can to get ready.

She was in Fort Worth June 26 competing in the AAU Regional Qualifier. Brewer placed fifth with a vault of 9’0”. The top eight qualified for the 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa July 30.

“I was disappointed when I didn’t get 9’6”, but I was happy to qualify for Nationals,” Brewer said. “I’m excited to go back to the Junior Olympic Games.”

Brewer then placed third out of 13 at the 2014 Port Aransas Beach Vault June 28 with a vault of 9’7” in the Novice 2 Co-ed category.

“This was my favorite meet of the summer so far,” Brewer said. “This was also my first time to compete against boys. I beat them and that was fun. The weather was perfect and I had a good tailwind at this meet.

“I was able to stay cool under a palm tree. I almost had 10’1”, and I’m working to push myself past 10’0” at my next meet.”

Brewer will get that chance when she competes at the 2014 Independence Day Vault July 4 in New Iberia, La.
