BV’s Holmes qualifies for national track meet

Five area athletes, including Brandon Valley’s Cameron Holmes, have qualified for the national Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships to be held in Wichita, Kan., at the end of July with their performances at the Region 8 meet earlier this month in St. Paul, Minn.

Holmes took first place the Intermediate Boys Division, 400 meters, with his time of 50.98, and was fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.24.

Also qualifiying are Alexis Gannon of Brookings, Alex Waddell and Kari Heck, both of Sioux Falls, and Carly Carper, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland.

Region 8 consisted of athletes from the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska.
