It was another successful national meet for the Bowerman Youth Club in Reno, Nevada.

The USATF National Cross Country Championships returned to Rancho San Rafael Park for the first time since 2009. The course was covered with snow again, which provided an extra challenge for the athletes. That however didn’t deter them from performing to their full potential, the club producing 8 All-Americans. Kate Peters from the 13-14 girls age group was the highest finisher for Bowerman crossing the line in second place. Her team also placed third scoring 139 points, making the podium. The 13-14 boys also placed third with 156 points, just four points behind second place Parker Panthers of Colorado.

The 13-14 boys had 3 All-Americans; Ben Balazs in 8th, Wesley Shipley in 23rd, and Logan Law In 25th place. These were the highest finishers for the club. Other All-American performances were from Landon Brefczynski in the 8 and Under boys, Alyssa Handcock in the 8 and Under girls, Maeve O’Scannlain in the 9-10 girls, and Zane Moore in the 11-12 boys. All these athletes led their teams to a top ten finish.

Bowerman continues to produce athletes that challenge the best clubs in the country. With the tremendous support from coaches and parents, the kids have fun running and competing. The smiles that covered their faces after the races showed that. For some teams it was their best showing of the year, and for others it wasn’t. No matter the final results and times it was an experience that all the athletes will cherish and remember for the rest of their lives. Running in a National Meet anywhere is a dream come true, because you are running amongst some of the best in the sport. Reno was the sight of the USATF National Cross Country Championships, but it was also the sight of the beginning and the continuation of a life long journey of a love for running.
